The
web page thestraights.net was initially published on the
Internet in the last week of November, 2000 at server
location fornits.com/straight.
On December 8, 2000 a page counter was set.
The virtual domain thestraights.net was created
on 2-22-02. On
that date the total page hits counter for
thestraights.net was set to the counter used on
fornits.com/straight.
On 04-02-02 it was discovered that several people
were still visiting fornits.com/straight instead of the
new version at thestraights.net.
Upon further investigation it was learned that
due to a program routing error,
many people were being routed to a /straight
directory. For
example people visiting the book A Clock Work Straight
might branch there by one of four ways:
It
turns out that each page has its own unique page hit
counter. Because
of these problems
it was necessary to make adjustments to assure that
future users would be routed to only one location, and
also adjust the page hits counters to reflect the true
page hits. Thus
between April 2 and April 4, 2002, the following
adjustments were made:
The table below shows page directory hits for accumulative page hits (the hit counters you actually see on a web page) since Dec 8, 2000. It also shows the true directory hits for the months stated. The true directory hits wil always be equal to or greater than the page counter hits displayed on the page when you visit it. That is because if you link to a directory the page counter is incremented by one. But if you k=link form there to another page and then hit the back button, the page directory hit is incremented by one, but the counter which is displayed on the page is not incremented. Assumption.
In the table below look at the statistics for the
directory thestraights.net/straight.
The display counter for that page on 04-03 was
96. That
means that if you went to
that page at that time that is the counter that
would be displayed on the page.
But server data shows that between 02-22-02 and
04-03-02 that directory had 25+218+7 = 250 actual
directory visits. Or,
for that particular directory, only
96/250 = 38.4%
of all directory visits were true page links.
We will arbitrarily and capriciously assume in
all other cases that 38.4% of total server directory
visits are actually page hits to be reflected in the
page counter when you visit a page.
Page
hit adjustments. thestraights.net.
We used 17,296 and added in
(186+978+25 )* .384
= 457
plus 96 hits from thestraights.net/straight
or 553. aclockworkstraight.
On 04-02-02 the page count was set for
thestraights.net/aclockworkstraight to be 1876. Since 02-22-02 thestraights.net/aclockworkstraight (and its
/straight version) had 411 hits.
I did not then have statistics for the fornits
version, so I reverted back to using the hit counter for
fornits.com and added in 158 hits. Hence 1783 � 1876 +
158 = 65
additional hits. Crimes-deprivations.
For the straights.com was 1456 which
included (19 + 134)*.384 = 59 hits for Feb/Mar 2002 for
thestraights.net. We
assume a similar hits for fornits.com,
thus we set the total to 1456 + 59 = 1515. Suicide
attempts. Use
2160 figure and add another assumed 50 from fornits.com
eg. (24 + 169) * 38.4% = 50.
Thus we set to 2210. Synanon-story2.
2233 + (19 + 95) * .384 =
227 Gop.
2204 + (8 + 26 + 51) * .384 = 2237 News.
We did not start keeping a counter on news.htm
until March 20, 2002 which was after we started running
virtual thestraights.net thus no page hit counter was
set on the news.htm
version at fornits.com/straight.
The page hit count for thestraights.net/news was
60. Since
fornits.com/straight usually had more hits than
thestraights.net, we
assume that its news had at least an equal number of
hits and thus we added another 60 to the count. A planned future adjustment. We will not have figures available for fornits.com/straight/straight directories until after 04-11-02. When that data becomes available there will be another adjustment made to add in the hits to for these directories. REDIRECTS
